Our Memorial Day traditions were well attended, and I would like to thank all who participated in the flag placement and Memorial services at the surrounding cemeteries.
Did you know that National Poppy Day® is May 25, 2018? Please join us and wear a poppy in honor of our American veterans.
The poppy flower flourished in France and Belgium after World War I. Scientists attributed the growth of the poppies to the enriched soil from lime in rubble left by the war. From the dirt and mud grew a beautiful, red poppy – a symbol of resilience shown by our nation’s service members.

March is gone and we are looking at a very busy spring and summer.
During March we have shown solidarity, strength and compassion.
The outpouring of support from the community and from our legion family during the Deputy Jacob Pickett tragedy shows our true heart.

On behalf of American Legion Post 79, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to the Bob Lear family. Bob was a patriarch of the Post, past Commander and a continuous member for the last 72 years.

Another month behind us and now the holidays are staring us in the face. Where has time gone?
As winter is approaching, we need to remember those less fortunate and try to help them stay warm this winter. If you have clothes you can donate to our veterans in need, bring them by the Legion. We have a drop off spot inside the Post. Thank you in advance.

Another month is past us, we are officially into fall, with winter staring us in the face.
Let’s help each other and be proactive to make the preparations needed for winter, snow shovels, salt, car maintenance and all the fun stuff associated with colder temperatures.

The warm weather is hanging on and summer is drawing to a close. That means we have the Fall Festival coming up, Patriots Day, and Veterans Day just around the corner.
Post 79 will have a float in the Festival Parade and a booth in Lions Park. Signup sheet is hanging on the message board.
