January 2017

From the Commander:

Dear Members,

With 2016 drawing to a close I would like to thank all the members who have stepped up and volunteered their time to make Post 79 the success that it is today.

We have dealt with drama, conflict and we have dealt with team work, patriotism and brotherhood. It all averages out and makes us a strong Post.

During all this we never lose sight of our mission or the goals we strive to achieve.

We are here for our Veterans and their families. For our brothers and sisters in Blue, Post 79, ZPD and ZFD have worked together this year like never before, and I am proud of the bond we have forged. We cannot succeed without the support of the community and we are judged by our actions in and out of the Post. Thank you all for being a good representative of our Post.

2017 will bring the same challenges as well as some new and we need to be ready to handle these, I have no doubt our membership will meet these challenges with gusto and professionalism and do what is the best for our Legion.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone for a great 2016 and I look forward to 2017.
Happy New Year everyone and may God bless you all.

Thank you.
For God and Country
Bart Colvin
Commander

From the American Legion Riders

It is hard to believe the year is drawing to a close. What a great riding season we had this year and we are all thankful for it. For many, we are closing December and some still have their bikes ready for one more warm day.

We have been blessed this year with good attendance at our ALR dinners and are forever grateful to our one table of folks that keep us going month after month. We were blessed with a great turnout for our 10th annual Cruzin’ 4 a Cure and were able to help two very deserving families who are now a part of us and we hope to see return to us in the coming years. And we are blessed and thankful for our Post. This post is a family and like families we have our ups and downs but also like family, we come together in our hour of need. And for this I want to extend a big thank you to all post members that keep us going year in and year out.

As we move into the New Year my Hope and Prayer is that we as a Nation find it within our hearts to find a way to come together for the greater good. It is a time to put aside the petty differences and work together to create a peaceful nation. Do not judge one’s color of skin, the clothes they wear, the car they drive or the person they love. Just be thankful God has given you a life to fulfill on this earth and follow in his footsteps.

It has been an honor to serve as the Chapter Director for ALR Post 79 and as well it has been enjoyable to write this newsletter snipit every month. I hope you have enjoyed reading it.

Last and most importantly, please always remember and never forget, “When you lay your head to rest, do so knowing you did your best.” ~Mic Woodrum
